Tokyo Marui introduces the AKM GBBR, a modernised version of the iconic Russian AK-47 rifle designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. This rifle has been in service with the Russian military since 1959 and has become the most popular variant of the AK around the world due to its simplicity of mass production, using pressed steel instead of the milling of the previous model.

Tokyo Marui has released this version of the Russian rifle following the successful path of the MWS and its innovative Z-System. However, there has been some controversy regarding the choice of materials, as while the top cap is made of pressed steel, the body of the rifle is not due to Japanese regulatory restrictions. Instead, Marui has used a new metal alloy that has proven to be durable in previous models, such as the MWS and its MK18 variant, designed to withstand heavy use.

This model features a high quality polymer stock that has been treated with a special paint to achieve a realistic wood look. For purists, it is important to note that, with some minor modifications, this replica can accept original grips and real wood parts on both the rail and stock.

The internal system has been designed by the same engineer responsible for the Glock 26 and the Hi-Capa 5.1, ensuring exceptionally good performance. During the manufacturing process of this AK, Tokyo Marui faced numerous challenges to achieve realistic performance combined with the brand's trademark efficiency. Since the bolt of the AK rifles remains in its forward position after the last round has been fired, it was not possible to use the Z-System that has worked so well in the M4 and Type 89 family. Therefore, the Japanese brand had to create a new patented system called "gas blowback machine gun AKM", which means that, once the magazine has been emptied, when the trigger is pulled again, only the sound of the hammer clicking in the air is heard, as the bolt will automatically have returned to its forward position. Although the mechanism can be switched off for test firing without balls, you can still enjoy recoil by manually pressing the bolt, similar to the Z-System.

The magazine of this AKM holds 35 balls and is cast entirely in aluminium, which was also a production challenge. The magazine was made to be a continuous gas tank that utilises its entire curve, unlike traditional AK gas magazines, which tend to have a rectangular tank, wasting a lot of space and increasing manufacturing costs.

This replica offers impressive recoil thanks to its 19mm cylinder, and according to those lucky enough to have had the opportunity to test it so far, the feeling is even more powerful than with the MWS model.
